An officer marks the name of a fallen peace officer, at the National Law Enforcement Memorial, Wash. D.C. Farmington Police C.S.O. Vicky Chavez's name is inscribed on this wall, along with the names of over 14,000 other peace officers killed in the line of duty since 1794. Judge Onuska ruled that she was not a “peace officer,” and therefore her death was not a capital crime.

Onuska Defeated!
Paul Onuska wasn't the only loser in this campaign.
Click here to get the full scoop.

This is the place to get accurate info on Paul Onuska's service as a district judge in San Juan and McKinley Counties, N.M., and the reasons why the voters need to send him packing on Election Day, Nov. 5.

Below, you will find summaries of detailed reports, which show why Onuska must go. Just click on the highlighted parts to get the full, sordid story.
    • "Do Not Retain." With those terse words, the N.M. Supreme Court's Judicial Performance and Evaluation Commission gives a big "thumbs down," to retaining Paul Onuska on the bench. Learn how Onuska gets the dubious distinction of being the only district judge (out of 60 evaluated statewide) to earn that voter recommendation, by going to Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission.
    • There are six district judges in the 11th Judicial District (McKinley and San Juan Counties). Guess which one is "excused" (rejected) by courtroom attorneys the most? Here's a hint: it's the same judge who "recuses" himself (i.e. refuses to hear a case) from the most cases. Go to Onuska rejected for the full story.
    • "Vicky Chavez"-She was on duty, in uniform, and serving the public as a Farmington Police Community Service Officer. While sitting in her marked police car, Kevin Ogden shot and killed her in cold blood with a shotgun. The National Law Enforcement Memorial in Wash., D.C. put her name on the memorial wall for slain officers. But Judge Onuska ruled her murder was not a capital crime because she was not a "peace officer"! The N.M. Supreme Court reversed Onuska's foolish decision 5 to 0!
    • "Kangaroo Court." We present some excerpts from a suppression hearing in which Onuska declares from the bench that he find the State's police witness "as honest as they come." When the D.A.'s Office announced it was appealing his decision to keep out important evidence at trial, Onuska files his report for the Appeals Courts that implies that the officer was a perjurer who was trying to rail road an innocent man into prison. Onuska's report rendered futile any State appeal. Did Onuska file a false report to kill any chance of an appeal of his legal reasons? We asked Onuska that question and other about his decision on September 5. So far he's refused to answer.
    • "Onuska's Special 'Rules.'" What kind of a judge has one "rule" for one attorney and no rule at all for his opponent? A biased, unfair judge, that's what. Click here to get a glimpse into how "efficiently" and "fairly" Onuska runs his court.
    • "Pit Day"-See how Onuska sets a trap to sadistically humiliate a young prosecutor in front of a packed courtroom her first day answering the docket for the State by herself.
    • "Questions for Onuska"-Our detailed letter to Onuska asking tough questions about his courtroom antics. (So far, we haven't received any answers, which makes one wonder . . . .)
    • "FAQ"-Frequently Asked Questions-and their answers.
    • "The Committee"-The chairman of the Committee for Judicial Integrity explains why he formed the committee, and why the rule of law requires Onuska's ouster as district judge.
    • "What To Do"-What you can do to stand up for judicial integrity and the rule of law.
